The Healthy Future Families (HFF) Trust attend community events such as Creekfest, church gatherings, and cultural and community festivals to promote healthy lifestyle choices among people and their community. Our sugar-sweetened beverage display always attracts people, showing them exactly how much sugar is in these drinks. We have used these opportunities to identify people at risk of type 2 diabetes and offer timely advice about lifestyle modification and medical follow up.
The HFF Trust is run by a passionate group of health professional volunteers. We are a registered charity formed in 2013 by a group of health professionals who share a concern about the number of overweight children being seen in clinical practice, and who are developing health problems such as type 2 diabetes as a result of their excess weight. Our vision is for all New Zealand children to live in an environment that enables and supports healthy eating and physical activity patterns. We aim to achieve this by raising awareness of the factors that are contributing to the increasing incidence of obesity and type 2 diabetes in New Zealand children, advocating for change in the current obesogenic environment, carrying out health promotion activities and supporting health initiatives that will contribute to a reducing obesity and type 2 diabetes in the future.
