The Healthy Future Families (HFF) Trust are working with Wellington City Council (WCC) to establish a Healthy Food environment, both for employees of the council, as well as for the general public using council facilities such as libraries and sports facilities. We also provide evidence-based healthy lifestyle seminars for WCC employees, as part of our Healthy Workplace programme.
The HFF Trust is run by a passionate group of health professional volunteers. We are a registered charity formed in 2013 by a group of health professionals who share a concern about the number of overweight children being seen in clinical practice, and who are developing health problems such as type 2 diabetes as a result of their excess weight. Our vision is for all New Zealand children to live in an environment that enables and supports healthy eating and physical activity patterns. We aim to achieve this by raising awareness of the factors that are contributing to the increasing incidence of obesity and type 2 diabetes in New Zealand children, advocating for change in the current obesogenic environment, carrying out health promotion activities and supporting health initiatives that will contribute to a reducing obesity and type 2 diabetes in the future.
Our team includes Diabetes Nurse Specialists, Dentists, Physical Trainers, health researchers, and a dietitian.
